Roughly fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be human bodily fluid in the German town of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Vehicles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.
Police say they were notified in the late hours on Wednesday, when a individual observed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered multiple other marked vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state early analysis suggest the substance was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; authorities are currently not informed of any physical harm in association with the incident," they commented.
City officials stated they were attempting "to solve the case" and have asked to the community for information.
A high-ranking official said the incident rendered him stunned and required to be resolved rapidly.
"This act strikes at the core of Hanau and revives the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he stated on online, referring to the killing of nine victims by a shooter focusing on residents of migrant background in five years prior.
