The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Announce a Latest Divinity, Calling it Their Most Ambitious RPG to Date

The speculation about the recent awards show reached a fever pitch, notably after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic photo of a desert monolith. The secret is finally answered. Larian Studios is creating a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a audacious trailer packed with memorable imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, prepare for a surprise. Larian warned that a third Original Sin game to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the core franchise. This phrasing implies that the team might be crafting a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. At this moment, this is speculation, as only a announcement clip is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is universally respected and it's fair to claim it kicked off the recent resurgence of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—qualities that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what truly sets Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have pared back options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths only possible by choosing a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, allowing players to improvise in narrative and gameplay. Virtually all objectives can be approached in multiple ways, often in unexpected fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you remembered something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a unorthodox way.

More to Come

It is this design philosophy that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games ever made. Now, players can anticipate more where that came from in this legendary franchise.
